Menu for 2/11/13-2/17/13

I feel so incredibly loved today.  Our whole house has caught whatever crud Bailey has had all week, so I called my dad to cancel our family dinner tonight.  It was partly because I just feel so... icky... and partly because I don't want to spread this outside our house.  My poor brother already caught it from Bailey and had it all week!

When I told Dad that we couldn't make it he suggested that they would make dinner anyway and bring it to us!  How sweet are my Dad and CJ?  They made a delicious, lemony shrimp pasta and even brought bread and salad to go with it.  Also, they included a container of soup to eat for lunch tomorrow.  It feels awesome to be taken care of when I'm feeling sick, especially since I'm over 25.

Since we're all feeling crummy today we just had a lazy day around the house.  Aaron let me sleep in this morning and when I woke up I made us some bacon and eggs for breakfast.  While Bailey napped today I just laid around watching TV and sipping orange juice.  Aaron went out for a bit this afternoon and brought me back an ICEE when he returned (so sweet!)

Maybe it's because I've been feeling so bad today, but the house has felt a bit cool.  The thermostat is still set at 70 degrees so it's probably just me.  Since it felt chilly I dressed Bailey as warm as I could today without making her wear her coat in the house.

She's never worn this outfit before because it looked like something that would cause a heat rash any other time, but I felt cold so I put it on her anyway and she seemed to really enjoy it.  It has Elmo on the front.  A friend of my great-aunt bought it for her.

The thing I love about the way I make bacon and eggs is that I only have to clean one pan and two plates.  That means that I don't have to run the dishwasher on weekends and the only work I have to do to clean up is put the plates in the dishwasher, clean the pan, and toss the aluminum foil in the trash.  I did feel obligated to sweep the floor before my dad got here with dinner, but that's really all the work I did all day.

I'm also glad that most of our meals this week are simple.  The menu is going to sound a bit one-dimensional because I got on a spaghetti/chili kick when planning this menu.  In fact, when I saw how the week planned out I tried to break it up some, but I didn't have much success with that.  You'll see what I mean in a minute.

I've also been scouring Pinterest for some new recipes for March.  I've narrowed it down to about six candidates, but I have to get that down to four before I can start actually mapping out the menu.  I know it seems early to be planning the menu for next month.  I always think that when I start planning, but almost every month I end up having to reschedule things and rearrange the menu before I go grocery shopping so this gives me a little time to get that done before I'm actually making my grocery list.

Here is the week's menu.

Monday:
Breakfast- oatmeal with apples and raisins
Lunch- grilled peanut butter and jelly (and soup from dad)
Dinner- spaghetti (with mom's sauce)

Tuesday:
Breakfast- yogurt and cereal
Lunch- Nana will provide lunch
Dinner- cheesy taco soup (at Yaya's)

Wednesday:
Breakfast- ham and cheese eggs with toast
Lunch- tuna salad sandwiches and peanut butter graham crackers
Dinner- chili and macaroni and cheese (see what I mean by one-dimensional?)

Thursday:
Breakfast- strawberry muffins
Lunch- leftover spaghetti or chili
Dinner- chicken quesadillas

Friday:
Breakfast- oatmeal with Nutella and bananas
Lunch- grilled cheese

Saturday:
Breakfast- bacon, eggs, and biscuits
Dinner- chicken sandwiches with french fries and macaroni and cheese

Sunday:
Breakfast- bacon, egg, and cheese sandwiches
Lunch- chicken salad and crackers
Dinner- Admiral will provide dinner

I don't know how it worked out that we had two chili dishes and two spaghetti dishes but I'm not complaining.  I love spaghetti and mom's spaghetti sauce and my spaghetti and meatballs are very different.  Chili is probably one of my favorite meals and I can't wait to share the cheesy taco soup with mom.  I think she'll really like it.
