Menu for 8/4/14-8/10/14

I have been a lazy, lazy, no good housewife this week. I haven't cleaned much except to keep the mess at bay and abandoned my menu for breakfast and lunch, resorting to things like store-bought bagels and simple sandwiches. Poor Bailey probably doesn't want to see another pop-tart or bowl of trail mix for a month.

I don't know what got into me this week but I just couldn't motivate myself to do anything. I slept more than usual. Still not enough though, never enough. I've been unbelievably thirsty too which I think is probably due to the heat. Not that we had any abnormally warm weather for the end of July, but it's still warmer than I really care for and heat always makes me feel like lying around the house, watching television, and generally trying to move as little as possible.

I finished two books this week (and two the week before... I'm really on a roll) and started a new book today. I finally finished Allegiant from the Divergent series by Veronica Roth which I really enjoyed, though I believe I preferred The Hunger Games series. I read one of Patricia Cornwell's Scarpetta novels, The Bone Bed. She's probably in my top three favorite authors. I wanted to continue with the next two books in the series, Dust and Flesh and Blood since they're the only two I haven't read but they're the most recently released and they're a little pricey for me right now. I flew through Remind Me Again Why I Need a Man by Claudia Carroll and laughed my rear off at all the horror stories about dating and past relationships. Having been with Aaron pretty much since I started college I never experienced much of the drama of ex-boyfriends, failed relationships, horrible first dates, or stupendously awful first impressions with possible future in-laws.

Then, since I had no idea what to read next, I took a suggestion from a friend of a friend on Facebook and began The Dresden Files series by Jim Butcher. The first book, Storm Front, had so much action I couldn't put it down. I was even trying to read while cooking, resulting in a huge mess when my pasta water boiled over Saturday night at Aaron's parents' house. Anyway, if anyone is looking for a good book to read any of the books I've mentioned here are really fantastic choices. I'm getting back to the second book of The Dresden Files, Fool Moon, as soon as this publishes.

We did have a nice week despite my laziness.

Monday Bailey allowed me to French braid her hair for the first time. I think I did a pretty good job for all the feathered bangs I had to deal with. It turned out pretty smooth.

We had Mommy-Daughter Mani/Pedi day again.

She demanded that I put sparkles on my fingers but screamed when I tried to put them on her toes so we're not quite a perfect match this time.

Easter Donald Duck accompanied us to Target this week and got to play jump on the big red balls that Bailey loves so much.

Aaron stole a sweet little kiss from the munchkin while she was busy watching him play Zelda. She loves to watch him play video games. When she's older I'm afraid they'll either fight for video game time or they'll be so busy playing them together that I won't ever get a free moment with either of them... or the television.

This little guy kept me company on the drive home from Chick-fil-A on Saturday. He was tiny and surprisingly strong. He hunkered down on the windshield wiper and didn't budge.

And Bailey requested a Minnie Mouse balloon at the store when we were taking advantage of the tax-free weekend and stocking up on school supplies and socks. Really, how can you say no when all it takes is a $3 balloon to make the kid super happy?
