I'm adding a new blog to my list of favorites this week. Fantastical Sharing of Recipes is full of quick, simple, and budget friendly recipes all posted by Sarah, who is seriously excited about everything she posts. It's infectious, the excitement. I love reading the posts that go along with her recipes. She gets me pumped up to cook and that's never a bad thing.
Some awesome things have happened in my kitchen this weekend. Saturday was my second attempt at a Pinterest recipe that I originally wasn't too fond of. Next time I make it I will be sure to photograph it so that you can try it at home. Today I finally got to try my tweaked recipe for barbecue pulled pork and it is definitely a home run! I can't wait to hear what Aaron's family thinks of it when we celebrate Memorial Day at his parent's house tomorrow.
I was so proud Friday when I checked my receipt from the grocery store. I've been combining some coupons with weekly ad items the past few weeks and even though I'm buying more (including some snack type foods for when I feel like munching and some extras of non-perishables that I use regularly) I'm not spending any more and frequently spending less than usual. This week I saved $5.90 on yogurt alone! (Since Bailey eats at least one yogurt cup every day that's pretty huge savings for this family.)
We planted Yaya's garden this week! I know we're a little late and it doesn't look like much, but since winter has been stretching its fingers into the spring (as usual in this area) I don't think we're too far behind. We planted carrots, green beans (3 kinds), lettuce, arugula, okra, squash, zucchini, cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, and jellybean tomatoes which I had never heard of before. We may not get much out of it and that's okay. I'm just glad I was able to attempt a garden this year since it's something I've wanted to do for about 8 years.
Bailey helped Yaya water everything (read: got totally soaked) after we finished planting. She kept just trying to touch the water but it would spray all over the place as soon as her hand was in the stream.
No kidding, she was completely drenched, and on a day I had forgotten to pack extra clothes for her. All I had was a very large hoodie I had been carrying in case of a cold spell.
Bailey has taken to trying to dress herself this week. She's been choosing odd combinations and I just let her wear whatever she picks since we don't often leave the house. I apologize for the tears. She was upset that I opened the door after she had closed it.
I also let her choose her very own new flip flops and I think she made the right decision!
Friday morning we got a late start and I was hoping we could just jump right into all of our work for the day but someone wanted to snuggle in the chair instead.
It took some convincing to get her dressed and in the car but once we were moving we accomplished a lot. We went to the bank and to the grocery store and ate TWO cookies in the shopping cart.
Well, that was a longer post than I had anticipated. I guess I'm making up for last week's wimpy three paragraphs. This is our menu for the coming week.
