Just an introduction

Hi, my name is Sara.  I am a stay-at-home mom to a beautiful 14 month old girl, Bailey, who is my world.

Some people think that just because I don't leave the house I don't work.  Those people would be wrong.  I spend my days cleaning up after a truck driver (my fiance) and a very energetic toddler.  I know other SAHM get that but the rest of the world doesn't seem to.  The idea for this blog right now is to share some of my favorite recipes that I use regularly as well as new ones that I am excited to test, to share techniques that help me stay organized and aid in my success as a "home maker", and to catalog the work I get done during Bailey's nap time so that people see just how much work is involved in this job.  I do all of the cleaning, cooking, grocery shopping, and meal planning for the family and that is just the start of the list.  I do bath time and nap time and bed time all by myself most days.  If Bailey cries at night I have to get up and comfort her which is why I like to say my job is 16 hours a day but on-call 24/7.

Bailey and I go to visit family three days a week.  Tuesdays we spend the day with my grandparents who we call Nana and Grandpa, then in the evening we have dinner at my mom's house (Bailey calls her Yaya).  On Saturday we visit my in-laws who live 30 minutes away.  I usually cook dinner for them but occasionally we eat out.  On Sunday evening we go to my dad's for dinner.  Bailey calls him Admiral (not because he's an Admiral he just wanted to be something other than Grandfather) and his girlfriend is Granny CJ.  Bailey is lucky to have so many people in her life who love her so much.

A few silly confessions:

I love to cook!  I don't care what it is.  I have recently discovered the wonders of bread making and I am loving it!  I make my own hamburger buns, sandwich bread, and rolls of all kinds.

I am slightly OCD so organization is fun for me.  The downside is that I get a little worked up when the other people in the house destroy my beautifully organized areas.  (For example: I like to have the bed made when I lay down to sleep, but my fiance usually goes to bed before me so the bed is already unmade by the time I get to it.)

Along with the organization I am quite fond of schedules and "to do" lists.  I make my menu plan a month in advance and do all of the grocery shopping one day each month.  I've cut our grocery bills in half using this monthly method, but it has its downsides.  I never remember to account for snack items so when I am looking through the kitchen for something to munch on there is rarely anything available.

I am a procrastinator.  I have to force myself to get motivated to do things like dishes and laundry and some nights I may post on my blog just to avoid having to load the dishwasher.  However, once I get started on something I don't walk away until I finish it (unless it's a knitting project).

I am crafty if it's a cheap craft or something that you can buy the necessary items as you need them.  I love to knit.  I like to crochet though I prefer knitting.  I buy my yarn as the project progresses so the cost of a project is spread out over the months that it takes me to make it.  I am capable of building things out of wood though I'm not great at it.  I can use tools though I don't have any because I borrow my dad's when I need them.

And I am a cat person.  I have 4 cats right now.  Our oldest is sick right now and hospitalized at the vet.  We're not sure she will make it and I'm afraid if she doesn't my fiance will fall apart.  Even Bailey is praying for Rhada kitty.

Well, I think it's time for bed now.  I'll leave you with a picture of Bailey's first snow this week.
