Menu for 2/13/15-2/19/15

Valentine's Day is just a couple of days away and Aaron's birthday is coming up the week after that. I'm starting to feel a little overwhelmed. I've been trying to think of something to give Aaron for Valentine's Day that he would actually use, but I'm kind of drawing a blank. When he wants something he usually just goes ahead and gets it, which is normally fine, but between like Thanksgiving and March it makes things difficult for me. It's especially difficult right now because I have to come up with two gifts instead of just one. I sometimes feel jealous of him because at least he gets an extra three months to find me a birthday gift after Valentine's Day, but then I remember that my birthday sometimes falls on Mother's Day and that has to be difficult for him too.

In other news, the Yarnspirations Mystery Afghan project started this week! It's a mystery knit/crochet afghan. They send you the clues (pattern pieces) one at a time over the course of 10 weeks and at the end of the 10 weeks you (hopefully) have a lovely afghan to show for all your hard work. This Tuesday they revealed the first clue and I'm participating in both the knit and crochet mystery afghan. The knitting clue this week was for 4 mitered squares that take me about an hour each to make. The crochet clue was for 20 granny squares that take about 20 minutes each. I've completed 3/4 knitting squares and 11/20 crochet squares. (I would be finished with the knitting squares except I ran out of one of my colors because I was late ordering my yarn and didn't know how much of each color I needed when I finally made it to the craft store to get it.)

If you want to participate in the mystery knit or crochet just follow the link above. There are links to the pattern clues, an option to sign up to receive emails when the new clues are available, and a list of the materials you need to complete the project. I'm having a blast so far and the most fun part is the community of knitters/crocheters I've found through Instagram. So far most people are doing the crochet pattern but I found a couple of buddies to keep up with who are participating in both.
