Are New Year's Resolutions Cliche?

Did you make any resolutions for the new year? I've made a couple. For one, I'm giving up soda... again. I do this every few years and usually it lasts about six months or so. I'm not addicted to soda or anything, it's just so much more convenient sometimes. I mean, water would be convenient (and I love water) but I really prefer it filtered and extremely cold. I'm the crazy woman who always orders extra ice with my water at restaurants.

I kind of made a resolution for Bailey as well regarding dinner time. See, for the past year or so we've just made her a plate and let her eat whatever she wants whenever she wants it. I tried planning out meals and snacks at reasonable times but quickly discovered that she won't follow the schedule. Lately she's been completely ignoring dinner. She eats breakfast and lunch with me for the most part, although I frequently give her whatever she asks for (cheese cubes, frozen peas and corn, leftover hot dogs or chicken, plain spaghetti noodles, fruit, etc.) but at dinner she either only eats one thing, usually macaroni and cheese or something like that, and almost never eats the protein.

So the new rule is this: Bailey must try one whole bite of everything on her plate. If she doesn't like something she doesn't have to eat more than the one bite. She is expected to eat at least half of the plate before she can go play, and if she has ten minutes to taste everything and if she refuses she has to sit in time out for three minutes. The first night was rough, several time outs before she finally gave in and ate (and practically devoured her whole plate) but now she seems to understand the new rules and though it takes a bit of prodding she does at least taste everything like I ask.

I guess my resolutions are mostly about housekeeping and keeping a schedule. No more sleeping in, no more going to bed without cleaning the kitchen and picking up Bailey's toys from the living room floor, and I need to go to bed at a reasonable hour as often as possible. If I manage to get in bed on time I'll have no more issues with sleeping in and if I can dinner on the table by 7:00 most nights then I will have time to clean the kitchen and living room before bed.

So, what are your resolutions for this year?
