Menu for 12/16/13-12/22/13

How do you gear up for Christmas?

For us, part of it is decorating the house and tree. We also enjoy driving around town to see other family's decorations. Bailey loves the lights. Every time we get in the car to go somewhere after dark we hear from the back seat, "Pretty lights!"

Another way is baking Christmas cookies and making candy. I only ever get fudge, peanut brittle, and candy cane kiss blossoms once a year. Oh! And I can't forget the buckeyes and peanut butter cups my bestest friend makes. That's another thing I only ever get once a year, a whole baking day with my bestest friend where we sit around talking about Bailey and music and the boys she's dating while waiting on the cookies to bake.

I think one of my favorite things about Christmas is the holiday specials and movies. It's just not Christmas for me until I get to see "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" and "Christmas Vacation". I think Bailey's new favorite (and one of mine) might be "Elf".

Then there's the music! I could listen to Christmas music year round. According to most people my age I probably have strange taste in music. I was never a huge fan of 98 degrees in middle school, but their Christmas album is great! It's almost all acapella and the harmonies are beautiful. I also like Billy Gilman and the Judds and Mariah Carey. Years ago Nana bought a Christmas CD that is all acoustic guitar and it's one of my favorites. I also love the classics: Elvis singing "Blue Christmas", Nat King Cole's "The Christmas Song", and Burl Ives versions of "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer" and "Holly Jolly Christmas".

So, leave me comments! I want to know how you get in the Christmas spirit.
