Menu for 11/18/13-11/24/13

I cannot believe I have made it more than halfway through November with only 5 posts!  It was not intentional, I promise.  I even had plans for extra posts the past few weeks that have yet to make it past my brain.  I keep forgetting to take pictures or the pictures turn out grainy or dark or the recipe isn't what I was hoping it would be.

So, some things to look forward to in the coming weeks are yet another spaghetti sauce, red velvet cupcakes, cream cheese frosting, broccoli casserole (all from scratch, since that's my contribution to the Thanksgiving dinner this year), creamy garlic pasta, and perhaps some cookie recipes I'm testing for Yaya to take to a cookie exchange.

We are coming up on my favorite time of year for food.  I love to bake for Thanksgiving and Christmas.  I try a new kind of Christmas cookie every year.  Last year was a chocolate covered cherry cookie that turned out even better than I had expected.  This year I'm hoping to try some orange cranberry oatmeal cookies I found on Pinterest.

A week or so before Christmas, my best friend and I always spend a day together making cookies (my job) and candies (her job) for our families.  We always split whatever we make so everyone gets to try some of everything.  She makes peanut butter cups, buckeyes, fudge, and truffles.  I love her candy!  And this year she wants to try to make stained glass hard candy.  I've never tried it before but I told her I'd be glad to help.  I did have to warn her that last year when I made divinity with Nana and my cousin J, that it turned out... how do I put this... not quite right.  I may not be capable of making candy.  And if that's true it's okay with me because I'm a darn good baker.

Since we can't have candy and cookies for dinner every night, here's this week's menu.
