Menu for 11/3/14-11/9/14

Sorry to have been neglecting the blog the past couple of weeks but I was so busy working on Bailey's birthday party that I couldn't keep my eyes open long enough at night to type.

I pulled an all-nighter the night before her party to finish the cake.

I made a green and purple striped cake...

with sky blue whipped vanilla butter cream...

and Tinkerbell very carefully piped on top.

It took a ton of work and I wasn't sure I was going to make it. Around 6:00 in the morning Bailey woke up and refused to go back to sleep and I had barely finished Tinkerbell's outline. At 7:00 I finally gave up and told her she could watch me frost the cake and eat some of the trimmings from where I evened out the top of the cake. She was fascinated watching me color the frosting and fill in the outline. She kept saying, "Mommy! You're coloring Tinkerbell!"

I spent hours cutting fruits and vegetables and cheese, making fruit wands and chicken salad for sandwiches and dip for the fruit. Admiral helped me finish setting up, cutting apples and croissants and tasting some of the food. By the time the guests arrived I had just finished tying the balloons to the stair railing and everything was ready to go.

Bailey's birthday party was a smashing success! Admiral's house looked awesome, the cake looked awesome, the food tasted awesome, and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves.

Bailey got some really neat toys...

and lots...

and lots...

and lots of cute clothes. She got balloons and spent time with her cousins.

She was so worn out that she fell asleep in the car on the way home and didn't even wake up when I took her to her big girl bed and changed her clothes. Poor, sleepy little kid.

So Bailey is officially three! I'm excited! She's learning new three year old things like how to count past ten and how to ride her tricycle using the pedals. She spelled her name to me the other day in the car. It was really satisfying for me because I've been spelling it to her in sign language with a little song since she was just a few weeks old. She seemed supremely proud of herself too.

She's sleeping in a big girl bed instead of a crib.

Nana gave us a twin bed for her and a new matching chest of drawers a couple of weeks ago and she hasn't slept in the crib two nights since. She still needs me in the bed to fall asleep but it is so nice to hear her little feet padding to my bed rather than her voice hollering at me from the crib to be let out in the morning.

I hadn't realized what a toll the bed would take on her hair. Every morning she wakes with a large knot in the back of her head where she's tossed and turned against the pillow. I guess she's switched from sleeping on her face with her little booty in the air to her back. And she hates having her hair brushed which is making it difficult for me to get us ready to go anywhere in the mornings, but she's happy and that makes me happy.

So that's how my past two weeks have been. Here's what's coming up this week.
